Ouch, it's been a while since I posted in here. Sorry about that. :) Not that I haven't been working on things. I'll try to get some updates posted!

Laurel Leaf

I was approached by Mistress Mathilde in the Outlands, who I have known almost my entire time in the SCA, to help out with a special project. Her apprentice, Adelaisa Bernois, was being elevated to the Laurel and Mathilde wanted to put together a laurel wreath for her with leaves contributed by friends from all around the Knowne World. It was my first time taking part in a project like this and I was very honored! So here it is, my goldwork and green silk laurel leaf.

Basic outline of the leaf and veins. Basic medium weight linen. Got to use one of my fancy German wooden hoops. Ooooh.

This was also the perfect project to use my new embroidery hoop stand so that I could have both hands free. You put the wide bit at the bottom under your leg, adjust and away you go.

Starting the outer edge. Two strands of the gold, couched with regular sewing thread in yellow.

The outer edge done! In the end there was two lines to two strands each for a total of four strands.

The veins done. I couched one strand at a time and went around it so that eventually it was doubled up like the outside.

Starting to fill in with the green. Did my best to follow the diagonal of the veins and used a simple split stitch.

Turned the corner and working on the other side.

All done! One thing to watch for the future, as I was doing the filling I must have had a thumb on the bottom couched thread because it ended up being a little more wonky then it was before. Must have pushed on it.

Cutting out another piece of linen to back it with. Just whip stitched them together, carefully folding everything under.

The front side. You can see what I mean about the bottom edge having gone all flat.

The back side.

The edge, all whipped together.

Another view of the finished product. Really proud of this and how it turned out. Also learned quite a lot!

Back to work on Intarsia

 Hello!

I know I haven't posted in a while, but I was working on a sooper sekrit project. :) I'll post about it when it's been given to its person. Something I am very proud of.

Now that it is done, though, I am getting back to work on my intarsia cushion. I have all of the red berries appliqued to the blue pillow and have started outlining them in the gold.

I've also started appliqueing the berries to the green one.

Finishing up the Mug Cover

Further progress on the beaded mug cover. I wasn't liking how the previous beading pattern of the big drops was working out, so I took out that row (which gave me a chance to fix a couple of things on the first row) and started over with a more alternating pattern.

Much happier with this and it drapes a lot better. Got it all finished up over the weekend. I'm happy with it and my mom loves it. Yay!

Also, I got really lucky and the geometry of it and the alternations between blue and green work out perfectly. :)

Not going back to the intarsia project quite yet, I am helping out with a Super Secret project.

Mug Cover Progress

Progress update on the new mug cover. Finished the first row of beading and have started on the 2nd row. This also includes the larger bead drops which provide the weight that holds the cover down, draped over the top of the mug.

Another Mug Cover

I've started on another mug cover. I had some random fabric, totally polyester, that was light enough to drape the way I wanted it to. I gave it a rolled hem using Eithni's technique, https://secureservercdn.net/198.71.233.203/2ha.518.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/EMVS.pdf. I don't often do rolled hems and this is usually the easiest way for me. Now I've started on the beaded edge. Check the Resources page for a link to a handout on these!
